A Visit To Colyford

A visit to Colyford

The White Hart Colyford

Whilst Colyford in itself is a fairly small village there is enough here to pass a gentle couple of hours if you want to visit.

There is no actual car park as such but most of the side roads will yield free car parking. It is not suggested you park on the main A3052 or the road up to Colyton as these can be quite busy and are not that wide.

Starting at the bottom of the hill you will find The White Hart pub which is open from 11 a.m. every day, closing between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m on Monday to Thursday each day but on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is open all day to 11 p.m.  The pub is dog friendly, wheelchair accessible and has food Sunday lunchtimes. On Thursday evenings there is usually some live music. (All correct January 2020).

Seaton Tramway

The pub is adjacent to Colyford Station for Seaton Tramway

Now, when the trams are not running there is not a lot to see but if you visit their web site timetables here you will be able to see a schedule of operation and if they are going then they do present an interesting, unique, photo opportunity.

You can see our own small guide to this major local attraction here which includes more information and even a video.

Colyford Cafe

Heading on up the hill from the pub (there is a short section of road here with no pavement so do take care) on your left you will come to to the listed old petrol station which houses within is a cycle shop and café.  Here you can buy to eat in or take away locally made cakes etc. and enjoy some light refreshment. There are also a comprehensive range of cycles to look at (and even buy!) and spares for your own bike may be purchased here. Wheelchair access is possible. The opening times may be found on this page (They vary summer and winter)

Next to the café is a small car dealership, Colyford Cars, which is generally not staffed, but you can always browse and if something takes your fancy come back by appointment.

the wheelwright colyford

Almost opposite the cafe is The Wheelwright pub which is open every day from 11.00 a.m. everyday and closes around 11 p.m. They serve meals from 11 a.m. (breakfast until noon) until around 2 p.m. and evenings from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. You may well find live music on there on a Sunday afternoon from around 3 p.m. and there is a quiz night on a Tuesday (all correct January 2020). Inside the pub is quite something having a thatched bar and in the back room you might even find a pool table and a pinball machine! The pub is dog friendly and wheelchair access is possible.

Colyford Post Office and Butchers

Heading up the road from the pub on the opposite side of the road is Colyford Post Office and General Store, and within the same building, Colyford Butchers. The post office part sells newspapers and a wide range of products from the usual things you would expect to find to obscure baking ingredients and a plethora of souvenirs for the local area. If you cannot see what you are looking for ask, you would be amazed how much stock there is in there.

The renown butchers sells all you would expect to find in a quality butchers.

Wheelchair access to the shop and butchers is not really possible.

St Michael's Chapel of Ease, Colyford

Heading on up the hill, having first crossed the road, you will find Colyford Church, or, to be more precise, St Michael's Chapel Of Ease, a small church built in the Arts and Crafts style. The church is open most days for a visit from around 10 a.m. to dusk.  There are, as you would expect, services each Sunday, and on the third Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. "Coffee and Chat"  and all are welcome, locals and visitors alike. Wheelchair access is possible from the rear doors.

The Village Hall

Colyford Memorial Hall

Almost opposite the church is the village hall. There are regular events on here but most are "pre-booked" for locals such as Yoga, Indoor Bowls etc. but if you are visiting on a Saturday there is often an indoor "Boot Sale" on, see the diary of events here.

The Colyford Goose Fayre

Colyford Goose Fayre

Every year in Early September (weather permitting) on a field down the road towards Seaton from the Post Office The Colyford Goose Fayre is held. This is a major event and well worth a visit.
